| Administrative History | Geoffrey Clarke (sculptor, designer, stained glass artist, mosaicist and engraver) was born on 24 November 1924 in Darley Dale, Derbyshire. Clarke initially studied at Preston and Manchester Schools of Art, 1942-1943, before serving in the RAF, 1943-1947. He then continued his studies in Lancaster, 1947-1948 and at the RCA, 1948-1952. Clarke was awarded an ARCA with Honours and the Gold Medal, as well as a travelling scholarship to the continent, in 1951. He had his first solo exhibition at Gimpel gallery, London, 1952. Between 1953-1962, Clarke executed three nave windows, a flying cross and an altar cross for Coventry Cathedral. He has also worked for Chichester and Lincoln Cathedrals, and for many banks, offices and private buildings making gates, reliefs, windows, designs for tapestry, etc. |
