| Description | This series contains issues, fragments and sketches for the Charleston Bulletin or Weekly Bulletin, together with an illustrated binder.
The 'Charleston Bulletin' was a newsletter produced by the younger members of the Bell family at Charleston, mostly during school holidays. It was originally edited by Quentin and Julian Bell in 1923-1927, with contributions from other members of the household, and was based to some extent on the Hyde Park Gate News produced by the Stephen family in the 1890s. This set of Bulletins were edited by Angelica Bell (later Garnett). The issues from the 1930s appear to have been daily productions, with a final run in 1939-1940 on a weekly basis. |
| Arrangement | The items from 1939-1940 formed a distinct grouping within the original folder of loose issues, but apart from that there was no discernable order. They have been arranged chronologically, with undated material placed at the end of the period to which they appear to belong (based on content, appearance or original arrangement). The pages of many of the issues were loose, and had fallen out of order. Where possible, these have been reunited into the original issues. The remaining loose pages, illustrations and notes have been placed after the sequence of issues. |
| Related Material | The series of issues of the Charleston Bulletin created by Quentin and Julian Bell are held at the British Library (Add MS 83316-83332). |
