Administrative History | George Frederic Watts was born in 1817. At the age of ten he was apprenticed to the sculptor, William Behnes. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1835. Watts was briefly married to Ellen Terry. in 1867 he became an Associate of the Royal Academy and then a Royal Academician. In 1888 he became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists, and in 1892, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. In 1898 he became an honourary member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He exhibited widely in London and Liverpool, at all the major galleries. He died in 1904. |
