| Description | Barbara Steveni used archives from O+I to create an artwork called 'Zero Balance'. Since O+I had wound up in 2009, the organisation's bank and the Corporations Tax Office continued to send statements, requests for returns and other documents to Barbara Steveni as the Coordinator of O+I. When Judy Vaknin and Victoria Lane were going through Barbara Steveni's archive they came across these documents and asked if they could dispose of them, in accordance with usual archival practice. This initiated Barbara Steveni's idea for a work, primarily based on the zero balance bank statements for O+I. Barbara Steveni viewed the fact that institutions continued to send documents as "symbolising the unstoppable potential of these ideas". The zero also relates to zero or 'O' in O+I and fitted with the conceptual ideas around the potentiality of the void that underpinned APG, O+I and in its latest iteration in the Incidental Unit. These papers include the archives that were used for that artwork and papers relating to the Serpentine Gallery event where Barbara Steveni presented the work. |
