| Description | The letters from Gilbert Spencer concern the birth of Shirin Spencer (?), his health and his drawing of Professor Turner and painting of faggots (TGA 733/1/1586); Gilbert's deputising for Stanley at the opening of an exhibition (Christ in the Wilderness series?) and talking about their family and Spencer's early life (TGA 733/1/1587); Gilbert's opinion of Constable (TGA 733/1/1588); Gilbert being approached regarding quoting Stanley in a biography of Eddie Marsh (a letter from Stanley to Mark Gertler) and Gilbert's mural and 'Cookham Regatta picture' (TGA 733/1/1592). TGA 733/1/1587 and 1592 include sketches by Gilbert and Stanley Spencer. |
