| Administrative History | Alexander Mackenzie (1923-2002) was a British abstract painter. He served in the army for five years during World War II, as a driver in the Inns of Court Regiment, part of the 11th Armoured Brigade that raced across France, Holland and Germany in the months after D-day. In 1945 he enrolled at the Liverpool College of Art and in 1950 moved to Cornwall, where he remained for his entire life and established relationships with local artist including Ben Nicholson and Barabra Hepworth. He taught at Leskudjack School of Art in Penzance before been offered a position as Senior Lecturer at Plymouth College of Art in 1964, where he stayed for the following twenty years, becoming Head of Fine Art. |
