| Description | The residuary estate of Miss Helen Knapping was bequeathed in 1935 to the Trustees of the National Gallery, the income to be used for the purchase for exhibition in England, Scotland and Wales of paintings of any medium, or sculpture, by artists of any nationality living at or within 25 years of the time of purchase. Two third of the fund's income is given to the Tate; two ninths to the National Galleries of Scotland; and one ninth to the National Museum of Wales. Each gallery is required to prepare an annual statement of account and a record of all works of art purchased from the fund, for submission to the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery. |
